What kind of people were our past ancestors? What kind of lifestyle did they lead? The paths towards the answers of these questions are quite astonishing and mesmerizing. If you are interested on such a path of discovery, Edakkal caves are the ideal spot which is located in the Ambukuthi Hills in the Wayanad district of Kerala. It is considered to be one of the earliest centers of human surroundings. Inside the cave you will find pictorial wall inscriptions of human, ancient stone scripts and animal figures with peculiar head dresses, the swastik form, symbols and cave drawings of human figures, knives, wheels, trees, bows and so on.
Similar cave drawings are found only in Stiriya in the European Alps and a few rocky places in Africa which are assumed to be 7000 years old. The caves found about 10 km from Sultan Bathery, are two natural formations of rock believed to have been formed by a huge split in an enormous rock.
