The prominent Idukki wildlife sanctuary is located in the forest land of Idukki district, Kerala. The sanctuary covers an area of 77 sq km in Udumpanchola and Thodupuzha taluks. The site is located at an altitude of 450-748 m above sea level and it occupies the forest land between the Periyar and Cheruthoni rivers. Rich collections of fauna in this sanctuary include elephants, deer, sambar, wild dogs, boars and jungle cats. Myna, peafowl,laughing thrush, jungle fowl, woodpecker, black bulbul and kingfisher are the spotted birds in the locale.
