The heaving shoreline of Kerala is busted out by lagoons that fuse into inland lakes to form some of the most delightful picnic spots. Veli lagoon is one among them, separated from the Arabian Sea by a thin sandbar. It is an admired picnic spot in Thiruvananthapuram where the Veli Lake merges with the Arabian Sea.
The Veli Tourist Village, built at the meeting point has the abundance of wading pools, fish ponds and landscaped gardens, along with amenities for water sports and boating. A children’s park around the floating bridge connects the village to the seashore.
The youth hostel takes care of food and accommodation at Veli. A wonderfully landscaped garden and amenities for boating, swimming, etc, on the good-natured water of the lake, attract hundreds of visitors every day. Paddleboats and Pedal boats can be hired to take a trip around the charms of the lagoon in a pleasurable way. Speedboats are available at service for a quick ride over the waters. Besides water sports, am 18-acre Waterfront Park with floating bridge connects the village to the Shankhumukham seashore. A children’s park is located around the floating bridge of the village. The village is now open for the visitors from 10 am to 8 pm.
