City of Palaces………!!

Mysore is a major tourist destination of south India with many prominent palaces, royal buildings, temples, gardens, museums, amusement parks and waterfalls hence also called as the city of Palaces. Mysore was the erstwhile capital of Karnataka and has played an important role in the history of South India. The rich historical and cultural legacy of the city is maintained well along with its drastic growth as a famous tourist destination. The splendor of the city of Mysore made it a favorite tourist destination in Karnataka. Visitors from within the country and from outside are greatly attracted to this magnificent destination. The Mysore city is known as the ‘City Of Palaces’ for the number of glorious buildings built by the Royal families.  The exquisite examples of Dravidian architecture are well seen in many of the traditional buildings.

Apart from the Palaces and architectural splendor, there are number of other tourist’s attractions that one can visit in Mysore. The Chamundi hills is one of the popular spots in Mysore with a temple on top of the hills. It is a prominent landmark of Mysore and is a favorite destination for the locales as well. The Brindavan Gardens and the adjacent KRS dam are worth visiting in Mysore. The Garden of Brindavan is one of its kinds in the country. This garden is famous all over for its colorfully lit dancing fountains that come alive once the sun sets. Another worth visiting destination is the Mysore Zoo which is the oldest Zoo in the country set up in the year 1892 by Maharaja Chamaraja Wodeyar.  At present the Zoo is a pioneer in breeding animals in captivity equipped with the most modern facilities. The Philomena Church is another famous monument of Mysore city preserved in a catacomb in below the main altar with a relic of the 3rd century St. Philomena. The 175 feet high spires is a well known feature of this church. The three lakes in Mysore set in lush green surroundings have become a haven for migratory birds.
