City of Palaces………!!
Mysore is a major tourist destination of south India with many prominent palaces, royal buildings, temples, gardens, museums, amusement parks and waterfalls hence also called as the city of Palaces. Mysore was the erstwhile capital of Karnataka and has played an important role in the history of South India. The Chamundi hills is one of the popular spots in Mysore with a temple on top of the hills. It is a prominent landmark of Mysore and is a favorite destination for the locales as well. The Brindavan Gardens and the adjacent KRS dam are worth visiting in Mysore. The Garden of Brindavan is one of its kinds in the country. This garden is famous all over for its colorfully lit dancing fountains that come alive once the sun sets. Another worth visiting destination is the Mysore Zoo which is the oldest Zoo in the country set up in the year 1892 by Maharaja Chamaraja Wodeyar. At present the Zoo is a pioneer in breeding animals in captivity equipped with the most modern facilities. The Philomena Church is another famous monument of Mysore city preserved in a catacomb in below the main altar with a relic of the 3rd century St. Philomena. The 175 feet high spires is a well known feature of this church. The three lakes in Mysore set in lush green surroundings have become a haven for migratory birds.
